STOWE WEEKEND OF HOPE INCORPORATES

Stowe, VT (February 13, 2009) The Stowe Weekend of Hope, “A Celebration of Life and Learning for Survivors of All Cancers and Those Who Love Them”, has incorporated, moving from under the umbrellas of Stowe Area Association and the Stowe Area Foundation Endowment. This is an exciting development for the Stowe Weekend of Hope, as it will expand opportunities for participation and sponsorship.

The 9th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope, presented May 1-3, 2009, has become one of the most inspiring, educational and unprecedented events for survivors of all cancers in the country today. Dozens of enlightening, educational and life-balancing forums and workshops are held throughout the weekend, free of charge, and are presented by leading oncologists, medical researchers, and experts in the field of cancer and cancer-related issues. The keynote speaker this year will be Joanna Bull, founder of Gilda’s Club Worldwide.

Stowe hotels donate complimentary rooms to first-time attendees and discounted rooms to returning guests. In 2008, hundreds of cancer survivors attended the free workshops, seminars and inspirational events held throughout the weekend. Over three-hundred cancer survivors and their families, from 21 states, Canada, and the Virgin Islands, and representing 46 different types of cancer were accommodated. Registration, open to all cancer survivors, begins on February 24th. The weekend’s program highlights include an Opening Ceremony, which in 2008 was attended by Governor Jim Douglas, Congressman Peter Welch and Senator Patrick Leahy’s Field Representative John Tracy. Also in attendance was Senator Bernie Sanders, who honored the event by entering the Stowe Weekend of Hope into the Congressional Record on May 13, 2008.

Serving on the Stowe Weekend of Hope Board of Directors are: Leslie Anderson of Stowe; David Cranmer, 10-year Cancer Survivor and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Board Member; Richard Morley, Vice President, Operations, Central Vermont Medical Center; Valerie Rochon, Cancer Survivor, of Stowe; Susan Rousselle and Jo Sabel Courtney, Stowe Area Association, and Terry Smith, Cancer Survivor and owner of The Bagel in Stowe. Stowe Weekend of Hope Committee Members include Kathleen McBeth, Cancer Patient Support Program Coordinator and 10-year Cancer Survivor; Trine Brink, 34 year Cancer Survivor, of Stowe; Deb Clark of Stowe; Susan Kruthers, Vice President, Community Relations & Development, Central Vermont Medical Center, and Leah Hollenberger, Senior Director, Development, Marketing & Public Relations, Copley Hospital.

The weekend is presented by Stowe Weekend of Hope, Inc. in cooperation with Central Vermont Medical Center/National Life Cancer Center; Copley Hospital; Stowe Area Association, the Stowe Business Community and The Vermont Cancer Center.

Stowe, Vermont (February 10, 2009) - The 9th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope, "A Celebration of Life and Learning for Survivors of All Cancers, and Those Who Love Them", held in the New England resort town of Stowe, Vermont, opens registration on February 24th, 2009.

The Stowe Weekend of Hope will be held May 1-3, 2009, and has become one of the most inspiring, educational and unprecedented events for cancer survivors in the country today. The event is open to survivors of all forms of cancer, as Stowe hotels donate complimentary rooms to first-time attendees and discounted rooms to returning guests.
